DRISHTI DAAN

One of the major reasons for blindness in India is cataract. Its a painful picture that even in this age because of cataract there are people living in total blindness. Rohit Shah trust was floated with the idea to give service to people in the field of ophthalmology but primarily to help needy and poor patients restore their vision! With this aim Thane Eye Care (TEC) hospital was setup to realize the objectives of the trust.

Although extremely well equipped, charges at TEC hospital, thanks to the trust, have been kept to bare minimum. Social commitment is also highlighted by the scheme for senior citizens and rickshaw drivers wherein complete eye checkup is being done for Rs.50/- on Mon-Sat between 4.00-8.00 pm. For other poor and needy patients the same scheme can be availed on every Tue between 4.00 pm-8.00 pm. Another note worthy aspect of this hospital being it has maintained total transparency in the operation charges by avoiding hidden costs. In most of the hospitals a cataract package invariably does not include the lens cost, cost of investigations, cost of dark glasses etc. With TEC this is not the case, even dark glasses after operation are inclusive in the package.

While those affording will get all the above mentioned facilities at very competitive price there will be many others who will still not be able to afford even the discounted rates of the trust. That is why the concept of DHRISHTI DAAN scheme that the trust has floated takes seed. Amongst the 5 senses that God has gifted man the one that we hold very closely is sense of sight. No wonder then donating sight to a person is looked upon as the highest donation of one human to another.

Any person willing to enroll for this scheme can donate a sum in the multiples of Rs.2000/- Every Rs.2000/- donated will ensure a cataract operation following which an extremely poor and non affording patient will have vision. The Trust wishes to concentrate primarily on patients from the rural areas of Thane district. The patient and his financial condition would be minutely scrutinized to make best use of the donated funds. Every donor will also be able to enquire with the hospital the name and address of the person for whom his money got utilized ensuring and assuring that the donor himself gets a chance to interact with the beneficiary! This information will also be displayed on the website. This is a rare scenario as in most cases of donation the donor is left wondering what happened to his money and whether it genuinely reached a poor soul or not !

The joy of the one who has been gifted his vision after many years of blindness cannot be described. We have experienced the tears of joy and the thanks giving that follows on such occasions. By donating Rs.2000/- only we are inviting you to share with us this inexplicable joyous moment.

Cheques will be accepted in the name of Rohit Shah Medical Trust and Research Center. The trust has 80G exemption.
